Welcome to Reception at St Michael’s Church School!

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to the beginning of their school journey. In Reception, we believe that every child is unique, with their own interests, strengths, and ways of learning. Our aim is to create a warm, inclusive environment where every child feels valued, safe, and confident to explore and grow.

Learning in Reception is carefully planned to meet the needs of all children. We provide a balance of play-based experiences and structured activities that encourage curiosity, independence, and creativity. Our approach ensures that learning is adapted and personalised, so each child can make progress at their own pace and in a way that suits them best.

We follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme to build strong foundations in early reading and writing, alongside a rich curriculum that promotes language development, problem-solving, and social skills. Through continuous observation and assessment, we tailor our teaching to support every child’s next steps, helping them to flourish both academically and personally.

Partnership with families is central to our ethos. We value your input and work closely with you to ensure your child’s experience is positive and rewarding. Together, we will celebrate achievements, overcome challenges, and create wonderful memories that set the stage for lifelong learning.

As EYFS Lead, my team and I are passionate about creating an environment where every child feels happy, supported, and inspired to learn. We work tirelessly to ensure that each child’s individual needs are met, and that their first steps into education are filled with joy and success.
