Quality Mark

IQM AWARD

St Michael’s Church School was successfully awarded the IQM (Inclusion Quality Mark Award for the 3rd time in May this year. Here are some of the quotes from the assessor from the recently received report.

“Teaching of phonics, the approach to reading, white rose teaching of maths, and using therapeutic approaches to behaviour management is now consistent across the school. The offer at St Michael’s is bespoke for children and all children regardless of need are welcomed. Leaders told me ‘we don’t ever give up on children.’ This was definitely a theme throughout my visit. ‘We are key advocates for pupils who can’t access mainstream in other schools to enable them to succeed.”

“I met with the Peterborough Area, SENCO, who works closely with the SENCO at St Michael’s. She told me that St Michael’s is an outward looking school with a desire to support the provision for SEND across the county not just within the school. The school delivered amazing training on SEMH, resources and strategies to use with children with complex needs. The SEND conference each year is supported by St Michal’s as a centre of expertise in this area. The SENCO supports other schools with challenges; they are facing around SEMH. They are the go-to school for the LA for school-to-school support and training.”

“I am of the opinion that the school fully meets the standard required by the Inclusion Quality Mark's Inclusive School Award. There are only minor areas requiring development and the school is aware of these. I recommend that the school be awarded the Inclusive School Award and be reassessed in three years. I also recommend that the school should apply for Centre of Excellence status.”

IQM ACCREDITATION

We have been successful in achieving the Inclusion Quality Mark Award twice now over the last 6 years (re-accreditation every three years) This year we decided to go for the Centre of Excellence award and on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th May we were inspected and were successfully awarded the Centre of Excellence Award. We were also asked to be part of the ‘Flagship schools’, which will entail sharing best practice with other schools.

The IQM body say ‘Becoming a Centre of Excellence is an opportunity for schools to build on the success of being one of the very special schools which holds the Inclusion Quality Mark award. A Centre of Excellence brings schools together to share and build on their existing good practice in inclusion best practice’.

Here at St Michael’s Church School, we try hard to meet the needs of all our children and support our families by working together. We are continuingly trying to improve our inclusive provision and make sure all the children get the best education to enable them to flourish. Inclusion covers children, staff, families and the wider community not just children with Special Educational Needs.

The full report of the two-day inspection will be available in the next few weeks for you to read.
